Acoustics

What is Acoustics?
Acoustics is defined as "Science of Sound", deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquid and solid states.
A good Acoustics is attained by enhancing Isolation, Absorption, Diffusion and Vibration in a defined space

Addressing these parameters individually will result in a higher level of Speech Privacy.

What is Speech Privacy?
Speech Privacy is an inability of an outside listener to understand a conversation between two or more separate individuals. It is an essential aspect in any Corporate, Institute, Hospitality, Community etc.

Speech Privacy is freedom from being overheard and of overhearing others

Fields of Acoustics:
  1. General Acoustics
  2. Animal Bio Acoustics
  3. Speech & Hearing Acoustics
  4. Architectural Acoustics
  5. Medical Acoustics
  6. Environmental Acoustics
  7. Underwater Acoustics
I work in Architecture, Industry and Community.

Welcome Note!

Dear Browser, Welcome to my Blog. I am Jonathan, an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer passionate about learning Acoustics for more than 4 years as a Senior Analyst and as an Acoustical Consultant in young and prominent Acoustical Consultancy firm based in Bangalore. In this Blog i intend to share my experience and my personal perspective on Acoustics. Subscribe and Follow to understand more about my contribution in the field of Acoustics. See you on my next post. Thank You.

Sound.

Sound is the vibration that travel through air or another medium and can be heard when they reach person's or animal's ear. Human ear has large audible range and at the threshold of pain, the dB is roughly 1 million times greater than at the threshold of hearing. Following is the different levels of sound with examples. Although the decibel scale is nonlinear, it is directly measurable, and sound-level meters are available for that purpose. Sound is measured in decibels ( dB ) on a logarithmic scale, which means that a sound of 50dB is 100 times greater than a sound of 40dB . Human ear hears frequencies between 20Hz and 20000Hz . This is called audible sound . Below 20Hz and above 20000Hz are inaudible sound . Sound that are below 20Hz are called Infrasonic Sound . Sound that are above 20000Hz are called Ultrasonic Sou nd . Sounds at or below 70dBA are generally considered safe . Any sound at or above 85dBA is more likely to damage your hearing over time. Researchers hav...

Noise.

Noise is unwanted sound considered unpleasant. Noise indistinguishable from sound, as both are vibrations through an air medium. The difference arises when the brain receives and perceives a sound. Noise is a difficult pollution both inside and outside environments The fundamental reason for noise is that  we depend in our society on so many different machines and tools and most of them are quite too noisy. This is true for Aircraft, Road vehicles, Ventilation system in building, Outboard engines and Industrial machines. To make these machines and tools quieter and free of vibration is mainly a task for the Mechanical Engineer Studies have shown that the most workers, without hearing protection in noisy environments have lost substantial hearing ability over the period of time. Noise from traffic is considered one of the worst environmental stressors for human. If you are facing road traffic everyday in your working days, there will be a substantial loss in your productivity due to...
